Work, Birds, Cats

Poor Amy is about to enter her own personal Month of Hell. She'll be stage managing three, count 'em, three shows all while working at the concert hall. Like a master chess champion lining up knights and bishops and pawns, she has arranged her schedule so that it's actually possible, but some days will be broodle. There are days when she'll work three jobs, with barely time between to breathe let alone eat.

Before she disappears into a morass of work, we've been taking walks to High Park...we go to enjoy the weather while reading/knitting, we visit the zoo and do a little bird watching. (Speaking of which, there are new pictures on my bird page.) I've no idea if Amy actually enjoys bird watching. If she doesn't then she's humouring me, which is extremely sweet of her.

On the walk between Roncesvalles and High Park we play The Great Canadian Cat Search. It's a simple game...when you see a cat, you point and shout "cat!" Whoever gets the most cats wins. This game is nerve-wracking enough on foot...Amy and her friend Jen used to play it while driving. Considering how intense Amy (who is not a competitive person) and I get while playing TGCCS, I'd hate to see it played in a car.

We've decided to make summer 2005 a TGCCS tournament, thus insuring that we'll break up by late July in a flurry of accusations, envy and tears. We're keeping track of games won as well as our overall cat total. So far I have two games, Amy one and there's one tie. Amy's cat total is 8 and I have nine. The highlight reel so far includes me sighting two cats at once, and Amy spotting a cat in the High Park Zoo bison paddock.

This is an exciting summer by our standards.
