Well it's official - the Queen is on a Crusade. Since she's Canada's Queen, too, that means we're all off to fight the infidel. Don the armour, sharpen your sword, take up the cross. We march to Jerusalem! This bit of insanity comes to us compliments of Ayman al-Zawahiri, an al Qaeda lieutenant. In one of their nutcase, loony bin videos he called Our Dread Sovereign Lady Elizabeth, second of that name, "one of the severest enemies of Islam" and suggested that she is responsible for "crusader laws."
Yes, she's technically in charge of the Church of England, but I really wouldn't call her a religious firebrand. Nor does she rule Great Britain in any substantive manner; she certainly doesn't make the laws. Maybe she slipped the words, "Death to the Mohammedans" into last year's Christmas radio message...I wasn't listening. Furthering the weirdness, al-Zawahiri made the statement in a video that justified (or, rather, tried to justify) the London bombings this summer. Funny...I don't think the Queen rides the Underground or the bus. |
Honestly. Have you seen the Queen? Does she really look like someone who's foaming at the mouth to conquer the Holy Land? I can imagine her conquering, perhaps, a pot of tea and a plate of digestive biscuits. Maybe an unruly pack of corgis. On a good day, she might conquer Prince Philip.
