Ah, The Legend of 1900. It's one of the most charming movies I've ever seen...a fairy tale, filmed with the rhythm of the music that runs through the story like blood through veins. An absolutely beautiful film of breathtaking images and heart-wrenching sadness. It's about as perfect as a movie gets.

And one ought not watch it alone...alas, Amy is at work. Anyhow, The Legend of 1900 makes my Top 10 List for films you probably haven't seen but should.

I lead my first class today at St. Bart's. Part of the internship is to write and present an education project - mine is "what is Anglicanism?" Nice narrow and easy topic, eh? The class will be spread over four sessions.

Today we opened with the question, "What is Anglicanism to you?" which lead to "Why are you Anglican?" We then dove into history - what shaped the Anglican Church? We covered almost 1600 years, from Julius Caesar's invasion of Britain to the Elizabethan Settlement...just the highlights, a "good parts" version.

Next week we'll launch from Good Queen Bess into the authority of the church. For Anglicans this means Scripture, Tradition and Reason...it's the "three-legged stool" of Anglican theology. Remove any one leg and the stool falls over. It's one of the things that attracted me to Anglicanism, that Reason is given a place in the church. As Robin Williams puts it, Anglicans can believe in dinosaurs.

The fact that so many of us are dinosaurs certainly helps!
