Sunday Explosion

There was an explosion in Toronto today. It happened, it seems, in the washroom of a downtown Tim Horton's coffee shop. One man, who was in the washroom at the time, died in the blast. So far that's about all anyone seems to know.

It's indicative of the world we live in that, when I first saw the story on the Toronto Star's web site, my first thought was that it was a terrorist act. Canada has just taken over policing Afghanistan, and we're seeing an escalation of violence against our troops. Whatever flag is raised in that country or in Iraq...well, it draws fire. So yeah, terrorism leapt to mind.

Of course there are a dozen other things that cause explosions, and a coffee shop washroom wouldn't be the most likely target. But that's the MO of a terrorist, to attack the everyday places. That's what makes it so frightening. Israel has had ample experience of explosions in markets and cafes, not even particularly crowded places, to teach us that much. We'll find out later if this is another lesson, though (with a minute's reflection) I doubt it is.

Meanwhile, pray for the soul of the man who died.
