OK, this is the funniest thing ever...at least for church geeks. You want it to be a joke, but it just isn't. The moving clouds really make it for me.

You'd also like this to be a joke, but I'm afraid it's real.

And if you were born in the 1970's this ought to make you feel old. It's Beloit College's 2006 Mindset List, a glimpse of the world from the viewpoint of someone born in 1988...in case you're counting, that's the group now heading into college.

Yeah. Freaky, eh? I was in high school when these children were born. By the time they went to kindergarten I was DJ at a college radio station, playing Red Hot Chili Peppers and Alice in Chains. (What ever happened to them?) When they became teens they rebelled against edgy music and now we have Britney Spears and whatnot.

Yeesh.

Some gems from the list...for someone born in the U.S. in 1988:

  • There has always been only one Germany.

  • A coffee has always taken longer to make than a milkshake.

  • "Google" has always been a verb. (Heck, for them it has always been a WORD.)

  • Bar codes have always been on everything, from library cards and snail mail to retail items.

  • There has never been a "skyhook" in the NBA. (This one makes me sad.)

  • They have no idea why we needed to ask "...can we all get along?" (A student interviewed for a newspaper article said "it sounds like a John Lennon thing.")

  • They have rarely mailed anything using a stamp.

  • They have always been able to watch wars and revolutions live on television.

  • Green tea has always been marketed for health purposes.

  • Small white holiday lights have always been in style.

  • Sara Lee has always made underwear. (I didn't know that...how Old School am I?)

  • Television stations have never concluded the broadcast day with the national anthem. (That's only because FOX "News" is 24 hour.)

  • Dolphin-free canned tuna has always been on sale. (I miss those tasty dolphins.)

  • Disposable contact lenses have always been available.

  • Ringo Starr has always been clean and sober. (Say it ain't so!)

Sigh. I'm going to take some Geritol and retire now.
