Armageddon Sick of This Nonsense

You may have heard about this...I did a while ago, but was either too busy or too appalled to comment.

A video game has just been released, based on the (strangely, even obscenely) popular Left Behind book series. There are all sorts of problems with this game. For one thing, it's set after the rapture, a theologically shaky concept to begin with. Then there's the basic concept of the game, which involves the player leading armies to convert or kill the remnants of humanity...characters even pray after they shoot someone, and this is supposed to make it a cozy-cuddly kind of game.

It's so revolting, so entirely out there, that I really want to think it's a gag. Some kind of Onionesque spoof. But no, it's real, complete with screen shots of New York City burning...you can just hear the Michigan Militia chuckling about that one.

You know, it's things like this that make it hard to be a Christian. No wonder people think we're all a bunch of intolerant, whacko nutters. No wonder people think Christianity is a bunch of brutal, archaic nonsense...so many of the loudest so-called Christians are doing their best to prove just that. In the words of the immortal Pogo, "We have met the enemy, and he is us."

Just in case your opinion of Christianity had been formed or influenced by things like this, please understand that we're not all insane. We don't all believe that God thinks we're better than everyone else. And we certainly don't all want to grab a machine gun and head for the smoking ruins of NYC to shoot some heathens. We have our crazies, like any other group, but we're mostly normal, decent people.

Sigh. One gets so tired of having to clean up after this sort of nonsense.
