So...close...to...break...

I don't have much of anything to say today. I've been plowing away at papers, reading and preparing exam questions. Nothing new under the sun, eh?

Some people have asked for the Prayers of the People I composed for St. Nicholas' Day...here they be.

  • Let us pray for the church throughout the world, and most especially as we live the church in our world. May we, like St. Nicholas, point not to ourselves but always to Christ.

  • Let us pray for all in authority, for city councillors and MPs, David our mayor, Dalton our premier, Paul our Prime Minister, and Elizabeth our Queen. May they be strengthened in wisdom, and may they have compassion for the needy and helpless who have no advocates in the halls of power.

  • Let us pray for peace throughout the world and for a spirit of reconciliation among all nations. We pray especially for the people of Ukraine during this turbulent time, and for the people of the Philippines as they recover from last weeks storms. We pray for all victims of natural disaster or human cruelty. May Gods justice and compassion prevail.

  • Let us pray for the hungry, the homeless, the sick and the suffering. For prisoners and refugees, and any in need. Let us pray also for those who feed, who shelter, who heal, who liberate and who welcome. May Christ be present in them and in us as we minister to the world around us.

  • Let us pray especially for all children, beloved of St. Nicholas. May their lives be touched by kindness and love.

  • Let us pray for our Divinity Associates. May they be upheld in their ministries and fed by the Holy Spirit.

  • Let us pray for the departed, remembering most especially the fourteen women killed in Montreal fifteen years ago today. May their deaths serve as a catalyst for change and a reminder of the work we have yet to do.

  • May we, like St. Nicholas before us, turn to the world with compassion and love, and may we work for justice.

Holy Nicholas, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
