War Zones

What is happening in New Orleans? Gangs of thugs roaming the streets and shooting at the police, snipers holding a hospital hostage, corpses in the streets, no food, no water, no electricity. America's favourite party town has become Baghdad West. Heck, even Baghdad looks comfy compared to what we're seeing in the Big Easy.

The conditions there are not too different from conditions in most of the world following a major natural disaster, but this time it's in the wealthiest nation on earth. This is the country that sends aid and workers and whatnot, not the country that can't manage to clean and control one of its largest cities. I pray that the situation doesn't grow worse, but I fear it will end in bloodshed.

Speaking of war zones, Toronto is either currently hosting or about to host an air show. Whether it's a rehearsal or the performance, jets have been screaming overhead all morning. To the adults in the neighbourhood it's a minor annoyance, but the kids next door are screaming fit to burst. I can't tell if it's fear or delight...or delight at pretending to be afraid.

Personally, I find it unnerving.
