It's just weird... Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada (my soul screams in pain) has been on vacation, spontaneously rubbing very carefully coordinated elbows with his two colleagues to the south - Mexico's Vicente Fox and America's Shrinking Shrub. Fox is about to leave office, so the big story (here in Canada, at least) is how well Dubya and Harpo get along. They ought to get along...Harper has been doing his best Shrub impression since taking office (aaaaarrrrgh) a couple months ago. The weird thing is how the press is covering this. Lots of comments about how comfortable they look together, how similar their political outlooks are, how they're a natural pair. Lots of speculation about whether or not they'll get along, have a one-on-one meeting, sign any accords. It's like they're a pair of pandas that the zoo is hoping will mate. |
